Winter Activities at Big White Ski Resort

Your Complete Guide to Adventure On and Off the Slopes

Big White Ski Resort is famous for its world-class skiing, champagne powder, and true ski-in/ski-out convenience — but there’s so much more to this mountain than just the slopes. Whether your group includes first-timers, families with little ones, or friends looking for new ways to enjoy the snow, Big White offers something for everyone.

From the thrill of tubing and snowmobiling to the serenity of sleigh rides and Nordic trails, Big White transforms winter into a playground of experiences — all easily accessible from your Luxury Mountain Vacation Rentals home.

Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding

Big White is every skier and snowboarder’s dream: 2,765 acres of terrain, 119 marked runs, and over 750 cm of natural snowfall each winter. Beginners will love the gentle learning areas off the Plaza Chair near the Village Centre, while experts can chase powder in Cliff or Gem Lake.

Lift tickets can be purchased online or in person at the Village Centre Mall ticket office, and rentals are available right beside the gondola. For guests looking to build confidence, the Big White Ski & Board School offers private and group lessons for all ages — meeting daily outside the Kids’ Centre or Snow Ghost Inn depending on the program.

After a full day on the slopes, enjoy true ski-in/ski-out convenience by gliding right to your LMVR property — complete with a private hot tub waiting to soak away the day.

Night Skiing Under the Stars

When the sun sets, Big White comes alive in a whole new way. On select evenings, the Bullet Express and Plaza Chair lifts open again for night skiing, offering a glowing view of the mountain and the sparkling lights of the Village below.

Night skiing typically runs Tuesday to Saturday from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm, and your full-day lift ticket includes access. The experience is quieter, the air crisper, and it’s a perfect way for families to enjoy the mountain together after dinner.

Nordic Skiing

For those seeking a slower rhythm, Big White’s Nordic trails wind through peaceful alpine forest. Starting from the Happy Valley Adventure Park — just a quick gondola ride from the Village — over 25 km of groomed and track-set trails are ready for exploration.

Equipment rentals and passes can be purchased at the Happy Valley Day Lodge Rental Shop, and the friendly staff will help fit you for classic or skate skis. If you’re new to Nordic skiing, sign up for a guided tour and learn proper technique while gliding through the quiet winter landscape.

Free Mountain Tours with Snow Hosts

One of Big White’s most beloved traditions is its Free Mountain Tours, led by the cheerful yellow-jacketed Snow Hosts. These locals know every hidden run, the best coffee stops, and the most scenic photo spots on the mountain.

Meet at 10:15 am in front of The Woods Restaurant (across from the Village Centre Mall). Tours depart at 10:30 am and last about 90 minutes. They’re completely free with a valid lift ticket or season pass — an incredible way to start your stay, especially if it’s your first visit.

Dog Sled Tours

For something truly Canadian, don’t miss a Dog Sled Tour through Big White’s backcountry. Guided by professional mushers, you’ll race across snow-covered trails behind a team of eager huskies, learning about their training and life on the mountain.

Tours depart from Happy Valley Adventure Park, and reservations are required through the Activities Desk inside the Happy Valley Day Lodge or online at bigwhite.com. Arrive 15 minutes early for introductions — and a few furry photo ops.

Snowshoeing Adventures

If you prefer to slow down and explore on foot, snowshoeing is a wonderful way to experience Big White’s pristine wilderness. The snowshoe trails also begin at Happy Valley, with rentals and passes available from the Day Lodge.

Guided tours are offered daily and take you through peaceful forests and viewpoints overlooking the Monashee Mountains. For the best vistas, try the Black Forest Viewpoint Trail, a favourite among photographers.

Tubing at the Happy Valley Adventure Park

For pure family fun, head to the Tube Park — no experience or lessons needed! Grab an inflatable tube and race your friends down multiple groomed lanes. Laughter is guaranteed, and the conveyor lift makes it effortless to go again (and again).

The Tube Park sits right beside the skating rink in Happy Valley. Tickets are sold at the Tube Park Kiosk, and operating hours vary depending on weather, so check the day’s schedule online or at the gondola station.

Ice Skating at Canada’s Highest Outdoor Rink

Strap on your skates and glide across Canada’s highest outdoor skating rink, framed by snow-covered trees and alpine peaks. Located in Happy Valley Adventure Park, this full-size rink is free to use if you have your own skates, or you can rent them — along with sticks and helmets — at the Rental Hut next door.

As the sun goes down, twinkling lights illuminate the ice, making it a magical evening activity for couples or families.

Snowmobile Tours

If adrenaline is your thing, a Snowmobile Tour lets you explore Big White’s backcountry from a whole new perspective. Guided tours depart from the Snowmobile Hut at Happy Valley and range from short family rides to advanced wilderness adventures.

Bookings can be made through the Activities Desk or online, and all riders receive a safety briefing and gear. Drivers must be at least 16 years old with a valid license — passengers of all ages are welcome.

Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides & Dinner Tours

Few winter experiences are as romantic — or as family-friendly — as a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow. Cozy up under a blanket and listen to the gentle jingle of sleigh bells as you wind through the forest trails.

Sleigh rides depart from the Sleigh Departure Area in Happy Valley. For something extra special, book the Dinner & Sleigh Bells Tour, which includes a candlelit meal at a private cabin. Reservations are required through the Activities Desk, and rides fill quickly around holidays.

The Twinkling Trail

As night falls, wander the Twinkling Trail — a self-guided walk through a glowing forest of lights beside the Happy Valley skating rink. It’s free, open nightly, and offers a magical winter atmosphere perfect for evening strolls with kids or a hot chocolate in hand.

Spa at Stonebridge

When it’s time to relax, head to the Spa at Stonebridge — located inside Stonebridge Lodge, just steps from The Bullwheel Restaurant. Treat yourself to a deep-tissue massage, facial, or couples’ treatment and let the experts work their magic on those ski legs.

Appointments can be booked online or by phone, and advance reservations are recommended during peak season. It’s the ultimate way to unwind after a day on the mountain.

Exploring the Village

Beyond the slopes and snow, Big White’s Village Centre is a destination in itself. Stroll through boutique shops like Altitude, Mountainside, and The Rider for winter gear or souvenirs. Grab a latte at Clocktower Coffee, or settle in for après at The Woods, Gunbarrel Grill, or The Bullwheel Gastro Pub.

When you stay with Luxury Mountain Vacation Rentals, you’re just steps from it all — dining, shopping, lifts, and nightlife — without ever needing to drive.
